Haynes Manuals - Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable (96 - 05) Manual (36075) [Paperback] Review

I grew up in the house of a mechanic and always had access to Chilton books. I do all my own automotive work and since discovering the Haynes manuals I can honestly tell you some things Haynes covers in great detail are just remove and replace items in the Chilton Books. I have bought a Haynes Manual for every car I have owned and every car in our familyfrom day one when we bought the car for reference on maintenance. I have yet to not find the information I needed to repair the car when it broke down.
And for a novice the best way to not be confused it to read it again and try to understand what they are actually saying and follow directions exact. Shortcuts are expensive

This part was an exact fit,no modifications required. To replace this part, Remove the interior trim around the area, and seatbelt mount bolt. Remove the 4 bolts, be sure not to drop them.Took about 1 hour to remove and replace this item. No need to pay the dealer to do this.

CIPA 07003 Fabric and Carpet Repair Kit Review

If you purchase this with the idea of using it to repair a burn in your car carpet...i would pass...there is very little information on how to actually use the product...there is NO way to actually match the color other than trial and error...i finally just took my car to a professional trim shop and they fixed it.I would take a pass on this product!

Permatex 81668 Stripped Thread Repair, .44 oz net wt. Kit Review

A Helicol is the correct way to fix damaged threads, but if its for a non vital part then this will do.I used this on the transmission bell housing for a light damaged thread and it worked fine, but for threads that were severely damaged I went the helicoil route.

Permatex 95140 DL Hand Cleaner Dispenser Review

The hand cleaner dispenser is claimed to be compatible with many hand cleaner containers.But, almost all products from Permatex (including DL) come in containers that have no special attachment for the dispenser.So, you take off the top, flip the plastic tub of cleaner upside down, and poke a vent hole in the bottom (which is now on top).The tub just rests on the dispenser, which means that it's easily knocked off.Permatex claims that it doesn't leak, even though the vented, open-on-the-bottom tub is just sitting on the dispenser.Permatex does say that their 1-gallon tubs of cleaner have threads that actually screw on to the dispener.But, the only such thing I've found is Devcon Fast Orange in the Flat-Top Gallon container (23104).List price seems to be $40 - $50, and almost nobody carries it.

Dorman 698100 Transmission Shift Solenoid Review

Let me start by saying that the part that I received worked just fine, and it arrived in a timely fashion. But I ordered a new Dorman 698100, and I don't think that's what I received.What I received was a Borg-Warner rebuilt (I think) solenoid in a falling-apart greasy old box that was held together with packing tape...The box didn't say Dorman, the solenoid didn't say Dorman, and it looks different than the pictures I have of Dorman's part... But hey, it works great... I have no complaints, but there are a few unanswered questions about this order.

Dorman OE Solutions 741-769 Jeep Grand Cherokee Front Passenger Side Power Window Regulator with Motor Review

If you're mechanically inclined, you can remove old unit and install this piece with relative ease.It was a bit aggrevating only because I didn't remember the exact placement of the tail end of the worm gear.It should be placed just under the window track and against the inside door well.There's just enough space for it to pass through the opening.If you leave it outside of this small area, it may interfere with the up and down travel of the glass.

Use masking or painters tape to hold the window glass up while installing the unit, it won't leave tacky residue behind.When it's time to attach the glass to the bracket, CAREFULLY bring the glass down and don't allow one end to fall down further than the other or it will come out of the glass guide in the window part of the door.I did this, glass came out of guide, and I worked a short while getting back into place.

The unit works fine.It's just slower at bringing the window glass up and down.The motor must be smaller than the OEM.I assume this is a cost cutting measure.Dorman did reinforce the area of failure by using metal instead of plastic to attach the window glass bracket to the worm gear.

Price is great, considering that I've seen retailers pushing it for as high as $290 plus!
