Dorman OE Solutions 4 WD Actuator 600-100 Review

I received this part today to replace the defective actuator (GM# 26013495) on my 1996 Chevrolet Silverado K1500. I installed it without issue except for the electrical connector. The one that comes attached to this item is designed for vehicles manufactured before 01-02-1996. If you have a newer vehicle (like I do) you will have to cut off theconnector from the new actuator and attached the one from your old actuator. The actuator still works, but it would have been nice to have a "Plug N' Play" installation.

After ordering this item I did discover that it might be possible to use a newer design -- and supposedly better -- actuator. (Maybe that explains why the electrical connector fits older model trucks?) Amazon carries this newer model in the form of the "Dorman OE Solutions 4WD Actuator 600-101". Since I did not install this newer design, I cannot say for sure that it will work in older model trucks. However, I did read a number of posts on websites in which the writers claim to have installed the newer model without any problems. I wish I would have known about this newer design before I ordered the 600-100 model.

I also discovered that Amazon sells a 'manual' actuator system. The part for my truck is the "Posi-Lok PSL600 4x4 for GM / Chevy", but Amazon carries this design for other trucks as well. This system is significantly more expensive, but it also offers benefits over the standard electromechanical designs. It also takes much more effort/skills to install.

I purchased the Dorman regulator and motor in September and it was fairly easy to install. It worked well for a couple of months but broke down in December. I contactedAmazon but they told me that they only warranted the part for one month and that I would have to contact Dorman directly. I have written Dorman a dozen emails now as they do not have a phone number and they have not gotten back to me for a week now. Needless to say I'm tired of driving with plastic on my window. I wouldn't recommend buying this part from Dorman or any other part from Dorman if this is the way they respond.

Dorman OE Solutions 4WD Actuator 600-101 Review

After the thermal type 4WD actuator in my 1994 K3500 GMC pickup failed, I decided to try this motorized type.The only problem is that it doesn't plug directly into the older type wiring harnesses - you also need to buy a separate harness because this actuator requires another 12 volt hot lead.The older thermal actuators had power to them in 4WD mode, then released with power was discontinued.These actuators are a motor which requires power in both directions.

After checking with my local GM dealers, these actuators were about $150 or more, plus the new wiring harness was another $80!This was way too expensive.I found this Dorman actuator was locally about $110, but the amazon price was down near $60 for the same exact part - what a bargain!

Unfortunately amazon didn't have the wiring harness, but I was able to find one on ebay, new for only $35.So now I have a reliable 4WD system and it only cost about a hundred bucks.It was a good investment.

Dorman OE Solutions Intake Manifold 615-175 Review

Visually, the quality of the Dorman intake's material and workmanship seems to be better than the Ford stock intake on my 2001 Mustang GT. The Dorman intake uses an aluminum crossover as opposed to the unreliable plastic crossover on the Ford stock intake (Ford corrected this problem in 2002). The Dorman intake also uses integrated O-rings instead of traditional gaskets, which simplifies installation and probably improves reliability (traditional gaskets have a tendency to trap coolant between the gasket and aluminum cylinder head on the Ford 4.6 liter engine. Over time, trapped coolant can eat away the aluminum). After I installed the Dorman intake, my car ran beautifully.

Couple of weeks later, I decided to change the spark plugs. However, I unpleasantly discovered that the Dorman intake partially obstructed 2 spark plug holes on the passenger side (the rear 2 spark plugs next to the intake passages marked with torque sequences 4 and 8). The obstruction was enough to block out my Craftsman 5/8 spark-plug socket, which means that changing these 2 spark plugs would require removal of the intake manifold again ... an unreasonable expectation. This problem did not exist with stock Ford intake.

If it weren't for this flaw, I would rate this product with 5 stars.

I bought this for my 96 Lincoln after I found out that my intake manifold cracked and it was past the deadline for the class action settlement from Ford. There are great instructions on the internet for the installation and it took about 7 hours from start to finish. The only problem was that one of the two temperature sensors would not come out of the old manifold and had to be replaced. The most difficult part of the installation was cleaning the mating surfaces.So far everything has worked fine.

Dorman OE Solutions Intake Manifold 615-180 Review

Installed the upper intake manifold kit in a 1998 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight which was experiencing coolant loss. The old upper intake manifold (plenum) had started to melt around the original EGR tube, causing a gasket failure and a slow leak of coolant into the engine. The Dorman kit came with all the parts necessary to completely replace the upper intake manifold, including all the gaskets needed and a new reduced diameter EGR tube designed to stop (or at least delay) the melting that caused the problem in the first place. The kit includes torque specs and minimal installation instructions...look around online for more detailed directions if you're not familiar with how it's done. If you're automobile literate it's not that hard of a job. More in depth than some might be willing to undertake, but if you have the confidence and motivation to see the job through to the end, it's manageable as a DIY afternoon project. Depending on skill level it could take anywhere from 2-6 hours to disassemble and install the new part. A good number of parts have to come out of the engine compartment (or at least be moved out of the way) before you can take the old intake manifold out and install the new one.

The only "specialty" tool you'll probably need to get a hold of for the install will be a torque wrench that can be adjusted for inch pounds (NOT food pounds)...be sure to follow the included torque directions carefully upon install. You run the risk of cracking the plastic or not getting a good seal from the gasket if you improperly torque the bolts or install them in the wrong order.

Amazon's price is by far the best I've been able to find. A trustworthy supplier, and they offer free shipping because the part is over $25. If you install this kit (properly) yourself you will be saving hundreds of dollars. There might be better kits out there that offer premium features, but the car I installed this in isn't worth more than a few thousand dollars anyway. The Dorman kit is adequate for most people's uses, includes all the necessary parts, and the price is hard to beat.

Dorman OE Solutions 741-649 Dodge Dakota/Durango Front Driver Side Power Window Regulator with Motor Review

This is my 4th window regulator for the driver's side of my 2004 Dodge Dakota.Those little white plastic pieces keep braking, and it's never the same one.The original motor is so strong it pulls the cable housing right through the plastic stop, or rips the cord right out of the window bracket.This is the first time I've gotten one from Dorman with the modifications.Hopefully they fixed the problem.

Dorman Modifications:
-The troublesome white plastic pieces have been replaced with heavier duty plastic in a better configuration.
-Motor replaced with smaller, slower lifting motor.Smoother operation.It takes about 1 to 2 seconds longer to roll up.

BE SURE YOU GET THE REDESIGNED ONE - or else it will break about once a year.(looks a little different than picture)

Dorman 800059 Nylon Fuel Line Repairkit Review

Easy to use and fit the vehicle. Just cut it to size, heat the ends in boiling water and insert the metal tube in both ends. I think some small clamps should be included as well. I installed the fuel line and checked it and there were no leaks. VERY IMPORTANT! I did have an engine fire the next day. I'm not saying it was because of the fuel line as it was too far gone to tell the cause but it was in the same area. I would recommend that you maybe install some clamps and check it often for leaks.
