FRAM PPA4309 Air Hog Panel Filter Review

The fram air hog is suppose to do the job of 20 traditional air filters over its lifetime.The filter is made of high quality cotton fiber and metal screen construction.However, I did not see any noticeable performance difference in my Nissan Pathfinder from using this over traditional filters, but knowing I can reuse it sure helps puts some money back into the wallet.Keep in mind cleaning this air filter is not as simple as wash and dry.You are required to use aFram Air Filter cleaning kit, which is additional cost.Fram's website has a $20 rebate towards a air hog filter that expires 12/2008.

According to fram's website, you must:

Directions for Use:
A. Cleaning -
When cleaning your FRAM® AirHog(tm) filter, NEVER use gasoline, cleaning solvents, steam, caustic solutions or strong detergents. Do NOT use brush or tools to facilitate cleaning. NEVER spray filter with compressed air or high-pressure water. Always use slow flowing, cool water to rinse filter. Failure to follow these safeguards may result in damage to the filter media.

1) Carefully remove the filter from the filter housing. Inspect and clean filter housing prior to re-installing the filter.

2) Tap the filter against a flat surface to remove any loose or caked-on dirt. Take care not to contaminate the clean side of the filter element.

3) Place filter on a flat work surface and spray both sides of the filter liberally with FRAM(tm) AirHog(tm) Air Filter Cleaner. Allow the solution to soak into the filter media for at least 10 minutes.

4) Rinse the filter using cool. low-pressure tap water. Rinse from the clean side.

B. Drying -
Allow filter to completely dry naturally. NEVER use compressed air, heat or open flames. Heat may cause the filter media to shrink. Failure to follow these safeguards may result in damage to the filter media. It is very important that the filter media is dry prior to re-oiling.

C. Oiling -
When oiling use only FRAM® AirHog(tm) Air Filter Oil. NEVER use filter without oil. The oil is needed to remove contaminants. Do NOT over oil filter. Failure to follow these safeguards may result in damage to the vehicle.

1) Before applying FRAM® AirHog(tm) Air Filter Oil, inspect the filter to ensure that it is clean and dry. If necessary, a second cleaning may be required.

2) Sparingly apply filter oil to each pleat. Spray each pleat only once. You will be able to see where the oil has been applied because the filter media color will change to FRAM(tm) orange. Only a light covering of oil should be applied, do NOT saturate the media.

3) Allow the oil to soak into the filter for 20 minutes. If after 20 minutes any white spots remain, lightly re-apply oil in white areas only.

4) Re-install the filter into the clean filter housing/airbox. Ensure that the sealing surfaces are properly seated

Slime 5001-A Raw Auto Inner Tube - 700/750 R15/16 Review

So when I first blew up the tube, I used a little car air compressor, the ones you plug into your lighter. The tube was not big at all, and I was majorly dissapointed. Then today I stopped by the gas station and put a lot of air into it. I was surprised at how big it became, and it worked great for floating down the Snoqualmie river up here.

After reading the other reviews, it's clear to me that the other reviewers didn't put enough air into their tubes. I'm a 220 pound guy and this tube was plenty big enough for me, no problem.

I would highly recommend the tube and can't wait for winter use. Just be sure you keep putting air into it (I would have a good compressor).

K Tool International KTI-89000 Digital Tire Inflator and Gauge with Dual Head Chuck Review

This tool is very high quality, and has an accuracy of 1 percent to over 100psi.Most analog (dial) pressure gauges (on consumer tire inflators) are only accurate to 2 or 3 percent. I really like the way this tool deflates - you simply squeeze the trigger halfway and it starts letting air out of the tire.Squeeze it all the way in, and it inflates.You really can't make it any simpler & easier than that!

Two things could be improved, but both are minor in my opinion.First, I wish the hose were just a bit longer (even if just another 2" to 4").Second, while inflating, the pressure reads "00" until you stop, and then it will show the current pressure reading.This means you have to stop inflating periodically to see where you're at.Once you stop, the pressure is read and displayed very fast (about one second), so this is a pretty minor inconvenience, but is worth mentioning here.

Overall it feels very well built, is extremely easy to use, is accurate, and does exactly what it's designed to do.

9 pcs 5 lb Dent Puller Set Review

This is not a good tool.The black handle came off mine almost immediately.I haven't even finished working the first dent with it yet and the nut that the slide strikes has managed to strip the thread off the bar.The threads are not well cut and I get the impression that the tool in general is made of too-soft metal.

I'd highly recommend finding a different slide hammer.

EZ - Air Tire Gauge Review

I'm one of those people who some times has trouble getting the alignment just right with the traditional "stick" tire gauges with the angled chuck.The EZ Air Tire Gauge makes the procedure a cinch, though -- straight in and out, with no more than a puff of air from the tire when you attach or detach it.The gauge itself seems pretty accurate and the entire assemble feels quite rugged.For use as a pressure gauge, I'm QUITE satisifed with it.

It also has a connector at the other hand that lets you inflate the tire through the gauge.It works with the air hoses you find at most gas stations as well as the screw-on connectors on, for example, the TyphoonMax TX300 portable compressor units.I haven't used this with the gas station air lines myself, but I have used it with my TyphoonMax compressor.The gauge will not give a steady reading while the compressor is on and inflating the tire.The gauge needle vibrates quickly up and down in a blur between two readings while the compressor is on, but you can still see the pressure increase looking at the lower reading of the blurred needle.You can also just switch the compressor off from time to time to check the pressure for sure.It's certainly much easier than swapping back and forth between the compressor and the gauge.The connector on the EZ gauge is probably the only real complaint I have.While it attaches and detaches easily from the tire for quick readings, the spring-loaded piece that actually holds it in place on the valve stem (when you need hands free operation, like for working the compressor hose) will some times not grip very securely and you'll have to jiggle or remove and retry it.It's never taking me more than a couple of tries to get a secure fit, though.

Finally, as a minor nit (but I feel worth noting), the gauge is oddly shaped and it may be hard finding space in, say, your glove compartment or other confined storage space.It isn't BIG, just...oddly shaped.

Sylvania H6024ST SilverStar 65-Watt High Performance Halogen Headlight Review

I got this set to replace my old sylvania regular halogens (no CB, noXV, just H6024) with great hopes, since it does cost more than twice as much. Alas, as much as I would like to see Emperor's new clothes, I couldn't help but notice that it's actually DIMMER than a regular halogen. My friends have commented on the reduced brightness before even knowing that I have changed the bulb. It is painfully obvious. The light output is whiter, yes, but apparently they have made some sacrifices in achieving that color. In my opinion the reduced brightness is not worth it.

Oh, on top of that, one of the lights just burned out yesterday, after less than a year of service (more like 10 months). I'm here shopping for another H6024 hence I thought I'd make a comment. Either get a real HID kit or just stick with regular halogens. These "high tech" halogens are not going to defy physics of halogen lamps. Save your money.

Holley 37-1542 Fast Kit Review

You need this kit, or something like it, to rebuild a Holley 1850 series carburetor.I had a bad experience with mine; I didn't notice that the gasket for the power valve came with 2 stuck together, so when I installed it, the two gaskets split apart, and allowed a huge fuel leak into the manifold.It took me a while to figure out why the carburetor was leaking so badly, thinking it was a bad (replacement) power valve.Of course the first time I took it apart, I broke all the bowl gaskets, and had to order another set.Also, the little O-rings that seal the transfer tube were very fragile, so I damaged those as well.So I had to get a full kit just for the two little O-rings, since I started to use the Moroso re-usable bowl gaskets.I'm much more careful taking it apart now.

If there was a negative star rating, this book would get it.The wrinkles on my scrotum have more information pretaining to these trucks than this book does.Apparently to this book, 1980-1997 means 1980-1985.There is virtually no information about any other years.Just a sampling, this book says the PCV valve is on the intake manifold.Indeed it is, however there is no mention about having to remove the alternator and a bunch of ther junk in order to get at it.Complete waste of my money and the trees it is printed on.I will be taking this book back to AutoZone tomorrow.This review pretains to Haynes manuals for ANY vehicle, they all suck.Cough up the extra money and buy a Nissan Factory Service Manual, desigend SPECIFICALLY for your model and year.If you have a 1994 pickup, get the one for a 1994 pickup...NO information for ANY other years.It will run you over $100, but it's well worth it.

I used this product about 3-4 months ago and my headlights still look great.It was relatively easy to do, taking me a few hours even while taking my time to get good results.

If I ever do this again I will definitely get this product again, but I will do a couple things differently.I recommend that you polish both headlights before you put on any of the sealant.I found that after doing the first headlight I got much better at the polishing, so my second headlight turned out much clearer than the first.If you do all of your sanding first, without sealing, you can go back and redo any imperfections after practicing your polishing technique.Once you're satisfied that both headlights are as smooth and clear as you can get, THEN, do the sealant to both of them.

If you have the ability, I would recommend opening your hood and removing your front bumper to make access easier and to reduce the chances of damaging your paint.My Honda Accord's bumper was held on by four screws and 6 reusable plastic rivets.

Permatex 85310 Mechanics Gloves-Large Review

Have to say, these are an excellent value and and excellent pair of gloves over all. They are thin, there's a lot of tactile feedback when using them, but they are still thick enough to offer good protection. These are just a hair thicker than the Mechanix gloves, but they are otherwise pretty similar. Not sure which would last longer with hard use, but they are both very good, high quality gloves. They are also very easy on the eyes and look clean and simple, something that seems to be hard to find in mechanics gloves these days.

I haven't seen these in a lot of places so I was hesitant at first to try them, but they are great gloves and definitely worth picking up. I'm very happy with my purchase and may order another pair before long, just so I can save them for when these wear out.

Lisle 34550 Handy Packer Bearing Packer Review

I was skeptical about this one in that I have hand packed for years.I had to do 18 bearing in one day.Maintenance on 3 trailers and figured give it a try.It works great and saved a lot of time.Clean off the excess old grease and then pump in the new.The grease fitting to fill it up is cute but to I just used a putty knife and loaded it up.It was quicker and a lot less pumping of a grease gun.This one had thick plastic parts and the directions are very good.The directions say you can put it in a vice and squeeze if for the stubborn old grease and there is no drought this unit will stand up to that.Fortunately I did not need to do that.The cover is nice to keep the unit clean ready for the next use. .Thanks John M.

Fram XG4967 Extended Guard Passenger Car Spin-On Oil Filter (Pack of 2) Review

The auto parts stores in town NEVER carry these because they want you to buy more filters. So I always order enough of these from Amazon to get free shipping and I'm all set for both cars for months. They are cheaper here anyway.

I run Mobile 1 synthetic oil and use these to capitalize on the longer intervals between required oil changes. With these extended guard filters and 100% synthetic oils like M1 or the cheapest Amsoil 100% synthetics, I go 7000 miles (I could probably go more, but I'm conservative since oil is the lifeblood of an engine and aside from oil I don't do wonderful maintenance like I should).

The color of the oil IS dark, I agree, but the real measure would be to use a test kit on the oil to see if it is still protecting the engine. Color doesn't neccessarily mean everything. I would like to see 99% efficiency in an extended interval filter, but unfortunately to get that sort of protection you have to install a bypass and use two filters at once (one cheap and one 99% filter like K&N or purolator).

In short, Amazon has made it easy & inexpensive to avoid shopping around for hi- mileage filters of good quality. I'll keep buying these as long as Amazon keeps carrying them. The purolators are a good deal here also.

FRAM PPA7344 Air Hog Panel Filter Review

I purchased two of these for different vehicles, they are built well and are purportedly 'lifetime' filters with the correct maintenance.

I bought these with a rebate and actually ended up getting both for free, can't beat that.

Not much you can say about an air cleaner except that it works and fits well, I haven't had to clean it yet but I did see the cleaning kit was fairly reasonable unlike the K&N models.

Instructions unclear as to what hose is for sealant and what hose is for inflation only.Slow filling and unpowerful. Built-in pressure gauge goes from 20 psi to 40 psi !All my tires fill to around 30-something psi. So gauge is useless, and I have to keep taking off hose to check psi with a hand-held gauge.

Lisle 32500 Exhaust Pipe Expander 1 5/8" to 2 7/16" Review

I bought this to help me re-use a muffler I had purchased months ago and it was still in very good shape. The tool worked just fine. I had to re-insert and spin it a few times to get my muffler pipe to except the new tailpipe and it held up to my having to use a long handle wrench to stretch out the pipe. This tool having two sizes should help me another day too. My only gripe would be that this smaller sized area could hamper anyone that is working on a pipe a 2-1/4" or greater pipe with a bend near the end and won't be able to insert it far enough in thier pipe. It gave me just enough clearence to do my job so I'm happy with it. Made in IOWA, USA? No real markings though....

NEW Eastwood Fender Roller - Lip Forming & Rolling Tool Review

The Eastwood roller is a great tool - just don't expect to bolt it onto your hub and get perfect results without a little trial-and-error. Use a heat gun to warm the paint and prevent cracking, but be advised too much heat will also harm the paint. Also, be advised that once the lip rolls past about 45 degrees you are likely to crack the paint no matter what you do.

I have found that this tool does NOT work on all cars. Wheel offsets and fender types have some impact on the amount of adjustment range from model to model, and in most cases I would not attempt to use this tool to roll a rear arch, as they are usually 2-3 layers of metal thick and you will damage these areas. A better option is to cut the metal away and reseal with an appropriate body panel bonding adhesive.

If you need to gain a little clearance for front tires, this tool might help you out. Unfortunately it's quite expensive given it's limited use coupled with the fact that it simply won't fit some cars. As a shop owner this tool has payed for itself, as I charge about $40 to roll fenders. I also rent the tool out for $20/day... but on more than one occasion the renter used the tool improperly and had to pay me to repair the resulting damage. Be careful and take your time.

Dorman OE Solutions 740-404 Mercedes-Benz Front Driver Side Power Window Regulator (w/o Motor) Review

Bought it, Amazon did a wonderful job shipping it. Arrived on time and everything.

The mechanical clearance of the regulator was extremely tight and made it very hard to open and close. The window motor had a very hard time running this regulator up and down because it was so stiff. I had to pull the new regulator out to check what was binding up.

No problem though, after driving a chisel into the pivot point a couple times, it loosened it up and worked like a dream. Compared to most other brands at half the price, I would say it was worth the extra effort.
