Sylvania 9007SU BP SilverStar Ultra High Performance Halogen Headlight - Pack of 2 Review

I recently purchased a 2007 Nissan Frontier SE pick-up.I noticed it had the reflective headlights when I purchased it, but thought no furthur about it until my first night back roads(dark) drive. We have a lot of deer in the area, and hardly a night goes by that I do not have them cross the road in front of me.I could not see more than 100 feet in front of me on dim and about 125 feet on bright, it seemed, and was hesitant to drive more than 30-35 mph. I found myself ducking down to try to see under the light/dark edge.I was amazed to hear my wife describe the same feeling.I hated to drive at night.I contacted the local Nissan dealer and asked if the lights could be adjusted.The service manager acted like I was crazy and said they had not had this problem before, and was no help at all.I contacted Nissan headquarters who were even less help.They told me to contact the local dealers who were independently owned, and would be glad to furnish me a list of the area dealers.What a joke.I asked for help to solve a serious problem to me and got the brush off from Nissan on what I considered a serious design problem.I have a friend who has a Titan and does not have the reflective type lights and has no problems. So, Internet here I come.I found the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra lights, and started reading the reviews.Almost all were raves about how much it helps night driving.So, I decided to purchase some.BEST PURCHASE I HAVE MADE IN SOME TIME!!!! These lights made night driving so much easier.I can now see down the road.I would recommend these lights, and have, to anyone who feels their night vision is impaired by insufficient lighting by their automobile.Thanks Sylvania for fixing my problem.

Sylvania H3ST BP SilverStar 55-Watt High Performance Halogen Headlight Review

I ordered these after I finally got around to replacing my 1997 Jeep Wrangler's headlights with Silverstars. These were for my foglights and between those and the headlights light brightness and reach were increased 50%. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because my BMW's have xenons and those are better still. I was next to a Lexus with regular lights one morning and mine were definitely brighter. A friend with a 2003 Jeep Wrangler is planning to get some after seeing the difference.

We have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport that came with some Wagner 'stock' headlights.They've never been anything special - in fact, we ALWAYS have to drive with our high beams on at night, and no one ever notices or 'flashes' us.Neither my husband nor I are very mechanically gifted when it comes to cars, so we were a little hesitant to purchase these and install them ourselves.Well, they shipped right after we purchased them, we received them four days later, and it took about 15 minutes to switch them out.My husband has to drive on a remote country road to get to work, and he said that these headlights (on low beam) are about five times brighter than our old lights on high beams.He also said that on high beams, it's like there's a big patch of daylight on the road in front of you.No need to adjust or align the level of the lights.We are anxious to see how long they last, but even if it's for a year or two, it's SO worth it!We will be recommending these to all our friends and family.

To install on the Jeep Cherokee Sport:
To remove, make sure you take the headlamp bezel off (2 screws above the headlight itself). You'll then see a metal bracket held in place by 4 phillips (x-type) screws. You will also see 2 star (*) screws; these are beam adjustment screws and you probably won't need to touch these. However, if you need to adjust the headlamps after completed installation, please be careful not to strip or remove them. Once the bracket is off, pull the headlight toward you and disconnect the plug. Replace the headlight, making sure that the middle prong of the connector is on top. Replace the bracket and the bezel, and you're set.

Sylvania H7 SU BP TWIN SilverStar Ultra Headlight - Pack of 2 Review

These Sylvania Silver star Ultra bulbs are not what is in the package. The package is correctly labled but the bulbs in the package are the standard bulb, part number 64210 with a output of 3300, not the 4100 power Silver Stars with part number H7ST as advertised. I sent them back with a full explanation but was sent the same "incorrectly packed" item. No one was intersted in looking into the problem. Could it be a deliberate rip off?

Sylvania 9006SU BP SilverStar Ultra High Performance Halogen Headlight - Pack of 2 Review

ALL the DOT-legal high output bulbs achieve higher output by overdriving the filiments, which reduces bulb life. They have to do this because the DOT puts limits on wattage. The only exception are HID and HIR bulbs, which use new technology to get more light out of less watts.

According to Sylvania:
"Since our SilverStar(r) ULTRA
headlights are up to 50% brighter than standard halogen, they will have
a shorter life span when compared to our other products. Part number
9005SU will last for approximately 125 hours of "on time", 200 hours for
part 9006SU."

If you want good lights on a 9006/9005 car, get some Toshiba 911 and 912 HIR bulbs. They'll cost you about $15 more than the Silverstars Ultras, put out more light... and last 5 times as long!

Sylvania H1 ST BP 8 TWIN SilverStar 12V 55-Watt High Performance Halogen Headlight Review

The Good:
Looks wise they are somewhere in between regular halogens and HID Xenons. Brightness is maybe 15-20% more than the regular halogens.

The Bad:
While I've better luck with their lengetivity compared some other users, the first set lasted about 11 months (both blew out withing 3 weeks of each other).

The Ugly:
The second set already has one dead and it they are only 9 months old.
Plus, this may be a coincidence but it seems they hate cold weather. Each time they blew out was when temps dipped below 25F.

Spend a bit more and buy PIAA Extreme Whites or Hellas. They have been known to last 5 times as long (relatively speaking)

Sylvania H7ST BP TWIN SilverStar 55-Watt High Performance Halogen Headlight Review

Bright and white as advertised.Longer wider beam throw as advertised.I felt it was worth every penny of the $50 I paid for it when I first put it in.Then, only four months later, the left bulb burned out.Reading other reviews with similar premature burnouts, I think Sylvania has a QC or design problem with the Silverstar Ultra series.this might apply to this Silverstar series also since the only difference is the color temp.

PROS:

- Bright "HID" (High Intensity Display) Look

CONS:

My original lamps on my Miata lasted 4 years.I replaced them with these Sylvania Superstars last year and both have already burned out.After reading Consumer Reports' review from December 2006, I now see why.They found no noticable driving improvement by using these bulbs and they tend to burn out too quickly.I see gimickry all thru the auto headlight bulb market!

Sylvania H4656ST SilverStar 55-Watt High Performance Halogen Headlight Review

The headlights in my motorhome were very dim and didn't reach far. These headlights are much better and reach almost as far as the high beams. They also have a different color temperture which is nice. I was able to aim my high beams a little more higher which makes night driving more relaxing.
